Closing Statement European Banking & Insurance Fair 2005

Confidence in the financial IT industry | Readiness to invest after years of caution | Attendance rate as in previous year | IT-Forum of the Sparkassen Informatik parallel to E.B.I.F. 2006

The financial IT industry is looking confidently into the future. This is the clear message from the exhibitors at the European Banking & Insurance Fair (E.B.I.F.), which ends today after three days. The 8th E.B.I.F. was able to reinforce once again its function as the leading fair in a difficult market environment – from IBM Deutschland, ELAXY, Cellent AG to Siemens Business Services, many large suppliers were present in Frankfurt from 15 to 17 November. The fair and the conferences had attracted some 10,000 visitors by Thursday afternoon (17 November).

The E.B.I.F. organisers are equally satisfied. “We are glad that the market has stabilised to a great degree and are excited about the optimism that was clearly noticeable in both visitors and exhibitors”, says Thomas Schütz, managing director of Messe Frankfurt Ausstellungen GmbH, which organises the E.B.I.F. Dr. Nader Maleki, ceo of the Maleki Group, which is responsible for the conferences, is also satisfied with the development of the event: “With high quality experts on current industry issues such as the struggle against money laundering and Islamic banking, we were able to expand the leading role of Euro Finance Week as the largest industry meeting of the European finance and insurance markets.” Through the CEIOPS Conference, leading representatives of the European insurance industry were also able to meet on the periphery of the E.B.I.F.

One could hear similarly positive statements at many of the exhibitors’ stands. “This year’s E.B.I.F. was a great success for IBM Deutschland. With the spatial proximity to the conferences, we were able not only to reach more visitors, but also a highly qualified clientele. The fair was a very good platform to pick up trendsetting industry contacts,” says Béla Steingassner, marketing manager in the Financial Services Sector at IBM Deutschland. The evaluation from Günther Steinberg, Marketing Manager of Financial Services at Siemens Business Services is also positive: “Within the context of the Euro Finance Week, the E.B.I.F. offered Siemens Business Services as an IT service provider an ideal platform for introducing the industry-specific portfolio.” The confidence of the exhibitors has been confirmed by the current study by Forrester Research, which has predicted lucrative business dealings for the IT industry in coming years. According to analyst Jost Hoppermann, European banks will be investing at least Euro 50 billion in software and IT services.

Thomas Schütz, managing director of Messe Frankfurt Ausstellungen GmbH, also awaits next year’s fair with optimism as the Sparkassen Informatik will hold its trade fair, the IT-Forum, at the same time as the E.B.I.F. in 2006. Thus, the fair visitor will have the unique opportunity to visit the three industry events Euro Finance Week, the E.B.I.F. and the IT-Forum at once.
